This will happen at the tail end of the year bringing together student filmmakers from all over the world to make films together with YFP students from different Countries.

Who Is Rachael Wainaina

Rachael Wainaina is a Film and TV Producer/Director and Social Entrepreneur with over 15 years’ experience in multi- media sector in Kenya.

Passion

She is the Founder and CEO of Youth Film Platform Africa and Film Village of Kenya and passionate about the fulfilment of the AU Youth Agenda 2063. In this respect, she works in partnership with African governments, private sector and development partners in various Youth, Creative and Infrastructure related projects.

Awards

A Multiple Award winner, Rachael has been recognized in various facets. She was among the first cohort of Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders 2014. Pursued Business, Entrepreneurship and Leadership in University of Notre Dame in South Bend Indiana. She was also awarded Unsung Hero award on 2011- By US Embassy Nairobi, Film Biz Africa Top 40 Women in Film in Africa 2013, Kiambu County Government Heroes Award 2013, GES Summit Delegate 2015, National Gender Commission Innovativeness in the Counties Award 2016, TWOW – Timeless Woman of Wonder in Multi-Media 2017 among others.

ACTING FOR FILM

About

Youth Film Platform is a Non-Profit Organization registered as a CBO in Kenya. REG: KJD/N/CBO/2019/11858. Our key objective is to empower the youth with practical and professional skills in Premium Cinema, Multi-Media Production and Citizen Journalism. The Skills can then be used for income generation and social-self-expression.

From a small class of 29 students in the first year to over 1,000 students within 10 years. From 3 short films in the first year to 28 short films and feature film after 10 years. We have seen youths come from joblessness to financial stability. And our scope enlarged from one county to 7 counties, from Kenya to 6 African Countries.

And from one partner to many. Together we have empowered the youth in Kenya to take up leadership in the Audio Visual Sector and taught them how to fish.

Prose Writer, Poet, Screenwriter. He won distinction for a short advertising spot “Paper” in the Legal Culture Competition at the 43rd Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.
